To date, what a spinal sprain actually is, what it causes, and the extent to which it exists (severity), have been somewhat obscured throughout the medical and legal communities. In lay terms, a spinal sprain is simply a “stretching” or tearing of the ligaments connecting vertebrae.

This stretching results in a condition known as “ligament laxity” or “ligament instability.” A stretched ligament is a permanent condition, i.e., “once stretched, always stretched.”

Many events cause stretched ligaments, even low-impact auto accidents can commonly result in the stretching of spinal ligaments. What’s more, even a mild stretching can cause individual vertebrae to become misaligned, tilted and rotated to one extent or another.

This can lead to an overall “breakdown” in the curvature of areas of the spine and in some cases the whole spine, either immediately or over time. As well as, a host of intermittent or recurring symptoms, including chronic pain.

The “domino” effect on the human anatomy all begins at the very root of the problem – the stretching of the ligaments at one or more levels of the spine, otherwise known as “spinal sprain.” If this sounds like you, what can you do to understand the locations and severity of your spinal sprain?

At Anacortes X-ray we take specialized digital x-rays to evaluate the locations of spinal sprains. Then send them to Spinal Kinetics that does their proprietary CRMA evaluation of the x-rays to understand the severity of the spinal sprains. This information provides Smart Injury Doctors the knowledge of where and how to treat your spinal sprain injuries. Dr. Cameron Bigge at PNW Chiropractic Clinic in Anacortes, WA is a Smart Injury Doctor. Call him at 360-336-6462 to schedule your appointment today.
